Why should I replace my HDB gate to Wrought Iron Gate is the most common questions I get from clients?

The picture below shows how a standard HDB gate looks like. This gate is still a common sight in our heartland in Singapore.

However, this HDB original gate needs to be painted occasionally as the paint peel off easily. I still remember the time when I have one of these gate at home. Every year before Chinese New Year, I will be tasked to paint the gate because I was the youngest in the family.I dislike the task as I hate the smell of the paint.

I recently received an email from a customer asking me the difference between the gate or I decided to share with all the home owner who have the same problem.

In summary, wrought iron gate is great for its strength and price but due to the Singapore's humid weather, it is prone to rust especially for home which are located near the coast of Singapore. Aluminium gate, wrought aluminium gate and stainless steel gate are good choice as they do not rust. However, they are slightly more pricey.

In short, I always tell my customer the following:

If you just want the security , pick wrought iron gate (very strong)

If you want the latest design, pick wrought aluminium gate (new material in market)

If you want privacy, pick aluminium gate (covered up designs are available)

If you want to the gate to look the same after 20 years, pick stainless steel gate.

After hearing these, some of my smart customers will ask me, "So what will you pick for your home?"

My answer is galvanised wrought iron gate. It is strong and less prone to rust due to the galvanised protection.

If you can't find a reason to convince yourself it is time to change your old HDB gate, let me give you two super good reasons!

FAQ: What type of lock comes with the wrought iron gate?

Answer: Double locking lock with 8 computerised keys. The lock comes with 8 keys because it is tough and costly to duplicate these keys. Duplication can only be done at specialised key store at a cost of $10 - $12 each thus our company understand the needs of our customers and provide 8 keys for all our lock.

FAQ: What happen will the lock is damaged?

Answer: If the lock is damaged within one year, parts and labour will be free under our full warranty. However, rest assured, this usually do not happen and the lock can usually last at least 5 years based on our experience.

After the warranty, lock can be replaced and the cost of $90 - $150 depending on the quality of your existing lock.

FAQ: Can I get a better quality lock?

Answer: Of course you can. You can ask our sale rep for the alternative lock choice such as stainless steel lock that comes at a slight premium price.

FAQ: Can I buy my own lock?

Answer: You can. But we will not reduce the price of our wrought iron gate as this is a package price and we will not install the lock for you as special lock installation requires special tools that we do not have.
However, I will not suggest customers to buy the lock on their own as buying one lock by itself is very costly, at least $200 - $300, which to me is not worth it.
